Primates do not make good 'pets' and we are against people keeping 'Pet' primates. We believe that if there is to be 'control' of primate ownership then it needs to be in the form of licensing rather than banning. The banning of something only pushes it into the black market which increases the value of the animals and always leads to a fall in the standard of care and welfare as it needs to be secret. Monkeys do not make good house pets as they require specialist diets, a highly enriched environment and a great deal of care. Monkeys should not be kept in a bird cage by the TV, living a monotonous existence. Monkeys are not surrogate children. They should not be sold in pet shops, where they are subject to impulse purchase and the store is unable or unwilling to 'vet' their customers. Primates normally require housing with their own kind, in spacious enclosures, where they can act in natural ways, with some limited interaction with people. If you want a cuddly pet please choose a rescued Dog or Cat. There are many such pets waiting for caring homes, without which they will be destroyed. |
